Best DUTCH Homemade Hot Sauce Award
by Wat Schaft De Podcast & Dutch Chili Fest
The Winner: Flower Power by Dennis van Wamelen
Flower Power, the hot sauce that Dennis van Wamelen made, won the Best Dutch Homemade Hot Sauce Award, a collaboration between Dutch Chili Fest and Wat Schaft De Podcast. The jury, consisting of Bram Kloosterman of Westlandpeppers, Freek Raijmakers of Heatsupply, Sandra van Houwelingen of Sorgh & Hoop, Nick Toet of Eten Met Nick and our own Tom Schilders, judged his sauce as the best out of more than 40 entries.
“Flower Power is a delicious and unique hot sauce. Sweet, sour and spicy are perfectly balanced and the sauce has a beautiful color. It's pronounced, yet widely applicable,” according to the jury.
Dennis likes to experiment with fermented foods. “I used fermented dandelions because the honeyed taste of the flowers is a nice counterpart for the chili pepper. The chilli isn't very hot, so the floral and sweetness of the dandelion is preserved."
White Whale Sauces will soon be releasing the winning sauce in a limited edition.
